If you are planning to study abroad in Canada or the UK, passing your medical examination is one of the most critical steps in your visa journey. For students and applicants in Punjab, the process can sometimes be confusingโespecially when trying to find approved doctors or "Panel Physicians" nearby.
At Apply Study Visa, we know that getting your documents right is the first step to success. This guide will walk you through exactly how to book your medical appointments for Canada and the UK in Punjab, including approved locations, costs, and documents you must carry.
For Canadian study, work, or permanent residence visas, you cannot just visit any family doctor. You must visit a designated Panel Physician approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Contrary to popular belief, there are NO approved Panel Physicians in Jalandhar. If you are from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, or Hoshiarpur, you will likely need to travel to Ludhiana or Mohali/Chandigarh.
Top Approved Locations in Punjab:
Ludhiana (Major Hub)
SPS Hospitals (Apollo): Sherpur Chowk, G.T. Road.
Dr. Har Kamal Bagga: Jagjit Nagar, Pakhowal Road.
Dr. Chawla's Clinic: Civil Lines.
Dr. Pannuโs Clinic: Krishna Nagar, Ferozepur Road.
Mohali / Chandigarh
Max Med Center: Phase 6, Mohali (Near Civil Hospital).
Kansal Clinic: Sector 54, Mohali.
Amritsar
Livasa Hospital (formerly Ivy): Airport Road. (Note: Always call to confirm current panel status).
Most centers now require a prior appointment. You cannot usually walk in.
For Max Hospital (Mohali): You can often book online via the Max Healthcare website or call their immigration desk directly.
For Ludhiana Clinics: It is best to call the specific clinic numbers between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to reserve a slot.
Original Passport (plus 1-2 photocopies of the front and back pages).
Aadhar Card (as a secondary ID).
IME Letter: If you have already lodged your file, bring the IMM 1017 form sent by IRCC. If you are doing an Upfront Medical (before filing), just tell the staff; they will generate an "Upfront Medical Sheet" for you.
Offer Letter: (Optional but recommended) from your college/university.
Photographs: 3-4 passport-sized photos (White background). Note: Many clinics now take a digital photo on the spot (eMedical), but it is safer to carry hard copies.
Prescriptions: If you wear glasses or have any past surgeries, bring your old records and current spectacles.
Fees: Approximately โน6,000 โ โน7,500 INR.
Prices vary by hospital and the applicant's age.
For the UK, the requirement is different. You specifically need a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Test if you are applying for a visa longer than 6 months (like a Student Visa).
Just like Canada, Jalandhar does NOT have an approved UK TB testing clinic, even though it has a VFS Visa Application Centre. You must travel to an approved clinic.
Approved Clinics (UKVI List):
Ludhiana
SPS Hospitals: Sherpur Chowk.
Dr. Har Kamal Bagga: Pakhowal Road.
Dr. U.S. Sidhu: Sarabha Nagar.
Mohali / Chandigarh
Max Super Speciality Hospital: Mohali.
National Medical and Dialysis Centre: Sector 10-D, Chandigarh.
Kansal Clinic: Sector 54, Mohali.
Call the specific hospital directly. Mention clearly that you need a "UK Pre-Departure TB Test".
Appointments are usually available within 1-2 days, but during peak intake seasons (July-August), delays can happen. Book early!
Original Passport (Mandatory).
Photocopies: 2 copies of your passport bio-pages.
Passport Size Photos: 2 recent photos (White background, UK visa size).
UK Address: You must know the address where you will stay in the UK (University address or Hostel address is fine).
Fees: Approximately โน2,500 โ โน3,500 INR.
Results are usually given the same day or the next day if the X-ray is clear.
Drink Plenty of Water: You will need to provide a urine sample. Drinking water beforehand ensures you can give the sample easily and helps flush out minor impurities.
Avoid Menstrual Cycle (Females): If you are on your period, avoid booking the exam. Traces of blood in the urine sample will cause the clinic to ask you to return later, delaying your file.
Eat Normally: Unlike some blood sugar tests, you generally do not need to fast (go empty stomach) for immigration medicals. You can eat a light breakfast.
Dress Comfortably: Wear loose clothing. You will be asked to change into a hospital gown for the X-ray and physical check-up.
Once your medical is done, the doctor will either give you a tracking sheet (for Canada) or a Certificate (for UK). You need to attach this to your visa application.
